My Pet's Vet

Check out our weekly updates and specials!

If you have an emergency, call 508-693-4040 and you will be directed to the veterinarian on-call.

Founded in 1994 by Kirsten and David Sauter, My Pet's Vet is a full-service veterinary clinic, located on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. My Pet's Vet is a member of Island Veterinary Emergency Services, which is a group--made up of most of the local vets-- who share the after hours emergency duty needed in this community.

Dr. Kirsten Sauter and the professional staff at My Pet's Vet seek to provide the best possible medical, surgical and dental care for their patients. Dr. Sauter treats canine, feline, equine and avian species with the help of her technicians and veterinary support staff. We are here for your animal needs, from flea and tick prevention to emergency and critical care.

We are located on State Road across from Island Cove Adventures mini-golf course. Come visit us at the clinic today, and bring your pets with you! Share photos of your pets on our website.

Dr. Sauter has been fortunate to be able to go to NEVMA in Portland, NAVC/VMC in Orlando, NIVMA in Newport, and send her technicians to the MassVTA meetings to continue our education into the future. Most notably, it was an honor Dr. Sauter and staff to meet the vet fields celebrities like Dr. Temple Grandin and Dr. Richord Ford. Thanks to Temple Grandin'¬ôs fear-free initiative, our new floor has plenty of traction for our elderly, handicapped, or fearful patients! Dr. Sauter and her family also attended the NNEVAS in New Hampshire, where she had the opportunity to further her knowledge regarding surgeries and ophthalmology. Dr. Sauter and her veterinary technician Darci have most recently attended the NAVC conference of 2015, RIVMA of 2016, and soon to be RIVMA of 2017.

  • Kirsten G. Sauter, BS, DVM

    Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Kirsten Sauter graduated in 1982  from Lafayette High School in St. Louis Missouri, fifth in her class. Following high school she received an academic scholarship to the University of Missouri at Columbia where she completed coursework in the Honors College, School of Agriculture. She graduated cumlaude in 1986. By 1989 she had received her degree in veterinary medicine from the College of Veterinary Science, University of Missouri at Columbia.

She summered on Nantucket as a kid, and fell in love with the ocean. So when she was offered a job here after graduation, it was an easy decision to move to the island, back in May of 1989. After her first few years on Martha's Vineyard, she commuted to an off-island 24hr emergency animal hospital.  Then she made the decision to open her own practice on the island. My Pet's Vet was founded in June of 1994 by Kirsten and her husband David Sauter.

Knowing the importance of staying current in veterinary medicine through continuing education,  Kirsten averages 40 hours a year. The state of MA has only recently been requiring continuing education, and only 14 hrs per year. She tries to provide her staff with the same opportunity and has sent them to the NAVC in Orlando a few times.

When Dr. Sauter isn't at the clinic, she's with her husband Dave and two children, Julia and Evan, and their many pets (including horses, dog, cat and bird)!

  • Darci Whitney

Darci is a year round resident of the Vineyard who has worked at My Pets Vet for four years now. She attended elementary and high school on the island, and has completed two semesters at Mount Ida College in Boston studying to be a veterinary technician. She will be completing her online degree at some point in the coming years in order to further her education in this field as well as training on-site. Darci has one cat of her own, "Moe" the future blood-donor kitty, and one dog "Annie" the German Shepherd. Darci has been very fortunate to accompany Dr. Sauter on trips to continuing education seminars, and has recently started attending Technician Only meetings on weekends and late nights to so she can bring the newest methods of patient care home for our patients.

  • Chloe Sauter

    Cute, Friendly, Future Blood Donor
Chloe is a "Field Trial" Golden Retriever, born Sept. 2011, in Michigan.  She is a very friendly girl and loves to greet every customer that comes in. Mostly, Chloe enjoys her friends to stop by and play in the yard with her or go with her to a dog park, namely: Georgia, Moonie, Mr. Purple, and her sister Scout.

Chloe loves to have her ears cleaned and sits very still for blood draws.  She is currently a blood donor.  In her free time, Chloe likes to carry around 2 stuffed animals at one time and dig holes in the yard (a hobby we are hoping she'll grow out of) and going on trail rides with her mom.
